Foreign Minister Stubb to attend the European Council meeting

Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb will participate in the European Council meeting to be held in Brussels on 16 September. At the level of Heads of State and Government, Finland will be represented by Prime Minister Mari Kiviniemi.

During the joint session in the morning, the Heads of State and Government and Foreign Ministers will discuss the Union’s external relations and the Union’s strategic partners. The discussion will focus on ways in which the EU could engage in activities more productively with its principal global partners. The main emphasis in the discussions will be on the development of cooperation with Asia and the G20.

At lunch, the Foreign Ministers will discuss topical foreign and security policy issues, such as the themes of the UN General Assembly week and Pakistan.
